WOD: A Triceps & Chest Circuit Routine

Happy June and Friday!

According to my calendar, today is Go Barefoot Day. Apparently it’s also National Doughnut Day. I’m celebrating the former by walking around barefoot, though I pretty much always do that…

I’m excited that it’s June 1st for a couple of reasons:

The start of June signifies the real downhill slope of my marine’s deployment, as he supposedly will be coming home in July (the key word here being supposedly…Anyone involved in the military knows that if there’s one thing for certain, it’s that plans are constantly changing, but we’ll pretend that it’s totally happening according to schedule unless we’re told otherwise 😉 ). The thought of him being home makes me ridiculously happy.

The other awesome thing about June beginning is that I’ll be heading back east in a little over a week to see my family and friends in Jersey. I haven’t seen everyone since December and I am so excited to spend time with my loved ones. I have lots of fun plans going on while I’m there, and will be staying at my parents’ for almost 2 weeks. WOOHOO!

Today’s Workout

I find it amusing that I instinctively typed “WOD” (Workout of the Day) in my title. This means that CrossFit lingo is finding its way into my vocabulary even though I don’t even do CrossFit!  That is how mainstream it has become, or perhaps just how much I hang out with CrossFit lovers..

Today at the gym I did one of my beloved circuit sessions. The strength training exercises focused on working my triceps and chest, though I also worked my legs quite a bit. I love combining weight training moves with movement to get my heart rate up and get the most bang for my buck. What you need to know:

  • The workout consists of 5 rounds, each with strength training, ab moves and cardio.
  • I used 12 pound weights. Adjust your hand weights based on your strength level.
  • When exercises are performed that involve doing one arm/leg at a time, 1 rep = doing one on each side of the body.
  • In between each round, do 5 minutes of whatever cardio you choose (I biked). Take minimal rests.

If you aren’t familiar with some of the exercises mentioned, here are descriptions I found around the web:

  • Tricep Kickbacks
  • Overhead Tricep Extensions
  • Plie Squats
  • Tricep Dips
  • Squirms
  • Oblique Twists

And don’t forget to eat something healthy post-workout to refuel! Today I ate a blueberry banana bowl:

  • 3/4 c frozen bluberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder (Designer Whey)
  • 1/4-1/2 c unsweetened almond milk

I also ate some of these yummies:

I’m off to get ready for a get-together with some girlfriends for dinner. Hope your weekend is off to a great start!

Spread the love

Hanging with my girl 8,500 feet above the Palm Springs desert floor!

Did you know that when you take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park, the temperature is 30-40 degrees cooler at the top? 🌲

Hopping on a ride in the world’s largest rotating tram car makes for a unique, kid-friendly adventure in Palm Springs!

New on my blog, I’m sharing some of my favorite things to do with kids in Palm Springs. Link in my bio and stories today, or comment PALM SPRINGS for a direct link to my guide.

Summer break ends for my little lady tomorrow, and I’m feeling all the feels!

Fellow parents, what will you miss from the summertime with your littles, and what are you excited for with school back in session?

We’ll be kicking off our week of family birthdays with my wonderful husband turning the big 4-0!

Something that intrigued me about Adam when I met him 20 years ago was that he seemed serious & quiet, but then would unexpectedly say something super witty or do something silly that cracked me up… & his serious-with-a-side-of-goofball personality remains true to this day (case in point: this video montage 😂)

After all, they say to marry the one who makes you laugh — and I, for one, highly recommend it❣️ Here’s to hoping the next 40 years are full of many more amazing adventures & accomplishments!

1️⃣ fun-filled day in Istanbul! 📍

Our favorite parts:
⭐️ Sultanahmet Square’s interesting historic sites, including the German Fountain & the Egyptian Obelisk
⭐️ Visiting the beautiful Blue Mosque
⭐️ Exploring the historic district and trying the street food (Why is the ice cream so.. sticky?!🍦)
⭐️ Venturing through the hectic Grand Bazaar
⭐️ A delicious dinner @amedroscafe
⭐️ Making friends with stray cats.. so many friendly cats! 🐈 As a huge animal lover, I adore that the city seems to take good care of its strays.. This is the first place I’ve ever been where they have vending machines to buy food for stray animals!

When I was newly pregnant with Camryn before we knew her gender, I had a vivid dream that I was picnicking with a little blonde girl in front of the Eiffel Tower. I woke up and told my husband, “Guess what? We’re having a girl!”

We got Camryn a passport at 5 months old with the idea that we’d visit Paris later that year and turn my literal dream into a reality. But then, COVID hit a few weeks later.

By the time we’d be comfortable traveling to Europe, we instead were selling our house in New England and traveling around the U.S. full-time.

We had adventures in plenty of other amazing places, but Paris remained a bucket list item.

…until now! Our picnic in Paris as a family of three may have happened a few years later than planned, but it was a bucket list item that was exactly how I’d pictured, perhaps even better.

It was such a magical evening staring at the Eiffel Tower, sipping champagne, and noshing on local food that we’d nabbed at shops around town ✨🥂

— all the while, laughing & soaking up the night with our wonderful little girl. 💗
