Hellllooo friends! I hope that you all had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. My getaway with my hubby to Napa was awesome! I can't wait to share some details about it, but right now, I'd like to pay tribute to this day. This year I didn't visit anywhere to honor Memorial Day, but I've certainly had the significance of this special day in my mind. I talked about it last year after spending the afternoon at Fort Rosecrans in San Diego, but I think it's so important to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's easy to go about your daily life and not think too much about men and women who are serving our country and protecting the freedoms that we so often take for granted. Having lived through it as a military wife, I'm often reminded of the daily sacrifices that military families ... [Read More]

Lessons I Have Learned as a USMC Wife
Yesterday marked the end of a major chapter in my life. My hubby is no longer an active duty Marine, and never say never, but at this time, I am no longer a military wife. This day came with a lot of reflection on the past 4+ years. What an adventure it all has been! When Adam decided to become an officer in the Marine Corps, I had no idea what was to come. I was finishing up college, and we had been dating for a bit over 2 years. At first I wasn't even sure if I could endure being a military girlfriend, but I remember the exact evening while he was in training when I made my mind up that I was going to stick it out with him, through whatever craziness came our way. This was hands down the best decision I've ever made in my life. There were plenty of people who made me think that we ... [Read More]
Happy Birthday USMC
November 10, 2012 marked the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Each year, Marines all over the world recognize and celebrate the occasion. Last night, my Marine and I celebrated the birthday by attending his ball in downtown San Diego. Hair I usually just wear my hair down, so I decided to get an up-do done at the salon for a change. My hair style wound up being somewhat messy buns pinned back with braids on the side. It was nice to be able to just get my hair done and then not have to worry it! Dress Since the ball is a pretty formal event, women typically wear long gowns. I (as usual) had a hard time finding a long dress, so after coming up empty-handed after a few shopping trips, I decided to take a risk and rent a designer dress from Rent the Runway. ... [Read More]
Reuniting with My Marine
Well, it's official... I've completed my second deployment as a USMC wife!! I resisted the urge to count down the days until my hubby's arrival on my blog for obvious safety reasons, but he's back home as of this morning! In the past few months, Adam and I have talked about whether or not Harley would remember him when he got home. Well, as I predicted, she did not forget about her daddy, and gave him quite the warm welcoming (to say the very least) when he walked through the door. I have the video footage to prove it! She was going nuts, trying to jump all over him and dragging out her blankets and toys. I don't really think she knew what to do with herself! Here are a few funny photos of them reuniting: The deployments we've endured have been such big learning experiences for ... [Read More]
The Power of Positivity: One Month Down
"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well." -Diane Ackerman A long hike to the top of a mountain with Harley + soaking up the sun & reading poolside + banana chocolate chip oatmeal pancakes = one glorious Saturday so far! Last night I realized that February 3rd marks 1 month down of Adam being deployed. As most people in my situation would automatically think right after realizing they're only somewhere around 15% done with their spouse being overseas, I thought ...And at least five more months until he comes home. Immediately, I forced myself to dismiss this thought, and instead looked at it this way: ONE MONTH DOWN! WITHOUT A COMPLETE EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN! OR CRYING MYSELF TO SLEEP! OR ... [Read More]
