Hearty Whole Wheat Waffles with Strawberry Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 2 TBSP chia seeds
  • 2 cup strawberries sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 TBSP vegetable oil
  • 1/2 TSP vanilla extract
  • 1 TBSP baking powder
  • 1/4 TSP salt
  • 1/2 TSP cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup truvia sweetener baking blend or 1/2 cup regular sugar

Instructions
 

  • Heat your waffle maker to medium high heat. Coat with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, wheat germ, chia seeds, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and 1 TBSP of truvia baking blend.
  • In another bowl, mix together almond milk, oil and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until smooth.
  • Pour waffle mix into waffle maker and form 4 waffles. Cook until lightly browned.
  • Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, add the remaining truvia blend and water. Add sliced strawberries to the pan and stir. Allow the mixture to cook until it becomes thick and syrupy.
  • Evenly pour the strawberry syrup over the cooked waffles, and immediately enjoy!
