I met some adorable dogs volunteering at the Humane Society tonight: Lillian reminded me of Harley. She was super sweet and just a total cutie. I quickly saw her stubborn side when we were all the way down the street. I tried to turn us around to go back but Lillian simply refused. She just sat there with a smiling face as if to say, ''No thanks lady, I'm good out here!" It took a whole lot of convincing to get her back inside, and her strong-willed personality was similar to how Harley can be. I really can't blame her, as she seemed very social and probably would rather hang around people and be outside all day long. I just love that happy face! A Simple & Healthy Summer Salad
Volunteering at the SD Humane Society tonight included a lot of puppy playtime! Here are a few of my favorites that I met: The reason why there were so many puppies there is because earlier this year, the SD Humane Society, along with the SD Dept. of Animal Services and SDPD, raided three pet stores that were treating their animals inhumanely. They confiscated over 100 animals, many of which were puppies. This past weekend, these animals became adoptable, hence why it's puppy galore there right now! If you live in the SD area and are interested in getting a young dog, I suggest going to check them out ASAP! Today's Eats Moving onto food, here is a recap of my eats today... My breakfast included Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Cinnamon Crumble cereal on ... [Read More]
We’re an Animal Crazy Bunch
"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi Last week while I was back in my hometown in NJ, for some reason I was thinking a lot about humans beings' relationships with animals. If you've read this blog before, you can probably tell how big of an animal lover I am. I'm the girl who feeds stray cats in my neighborhood; who almost hit a dog with my car once, then took him home with me for days while looking for his owner. I've always had a big heart for animals. Spend about 30 seconds in my parents' home, and you can see where my love for animals originated... There's Rosco, our 12-year old dog that we adopted after he was found as a puppy in a drain pipe: My favorite cat Molly... ...who was the tiniest little fur ball when we got ... [Read More]

I keep getting my days messed up this week, but does it seem like Friday to anyone else?! Before I get to this yumminess... There's something that's been weighing on my heart since last night that I need to vent about. In the past, I've expressed my love for volunteering at the Humane Society. Normally I'm able to ignore any feelings of sadness, and leave just feeling good knowing that I spent a few hours helping out an organization whose purpose is to give animals the best lives possible. But every once in awhile, I can't help but leave feeling a little brokenhearted about the ways some of the animals have been treated. This was the case last night. Meet Duke, a now blind 10-year old sweetie pie: He recently had surgery to have his eyes sewn shut. Reading the story of Duke's ... [Read More]
Puppies & Calendar Quotes
Get a load of these pretty little faces.. I got to hang with these 5 month old babies a bit ago while volunteering at the SD Humane Society. I was taking the harness off of another dog I walked tonight when he looked at me and licked me right in the mouth. Gross! Oh but such a love.. Speaking of adorable homeless animals, I got word today that the Escondido Humane Society, the town north of San Diego, and where I used to also volunteer, is in the runnings to win $100K in the ASPCA Rachael Ray Challenge. I can tell you that the dedicated staff and volunteers there could really use the money to help all of the animals that they so lovingly try to care for. What can you do to help them win? Starting tomorrow at 9 PST, just go to this website www.votetosavelives.org and vote for Escondido ... [Read More]
