Hope that everyone had a great weekend and Mother's Day! My hubby gave me flowers for being a wonderful canine mother. ;-) I was thinking a lot about my mom yesterday and how much I appreciate her. Even though we live on opposite coasts, we talk at least once a day and are really close. She was on vacation with my dad in Aruba the past several days, so I kept thinking it was strange not getting to call her and wish her a happy Mother's Day. I love my mama! Yesterday Adam, Harley and I went hiking at a new spot nearby, called Mount Madonna County Park. Adam and I were just recently talking about how neither of us have really seen Redwood trees before - because we're planning a trip up to Redwood forests very soon! - and we were pleasantly surprised when we got to the ... Harley Meets Cattle | Coyote Lake – Harvey Bear Ranch County Park, Morgan Hill
Last weekend my little family and I headed to a nearby park to get some outdoor exercise. Adam and I went biking at Harvey Bear Park earlier in the week, and we were in awe of how beautiful it is there. I was also struck by another thing - the cows grazing everywhere. I'm not a country girl and am not used to seeing cattle just hanging out right by me! I knew I wanted to take our city puppy there to have her see them too. At one point, Harley was having a staring contest with a cow, until the cow started mooing. At that moment, my little city canine tried to bolt the hell out of there. It was so funny! I thought that cows hanging out in large fenced areas was interesting enough... ...until we came across a part of the park where the cows were just hanging out ... [Read More]
A Sunday Adventure: Three Sisters Waterfall Hike // Descanso, CA
When I found out a few weeks ago that my hubby and I will be moving out of the San Diego area very soon, I started thinking about the things we haven't done yet here that I want to experience. That's why last weekend we did a whale watching cruise, and today we did the Three Sisters Waterfall Hike. Three Sisters Falls is located in a town called Descanso, around 50 miles from where we live. To get there, we had to drive through very rural areas and back roads where we saw more animals than people. We rode on a very windy, bumpy dirt road for awhile with just a few ranches and hardly any other cars, and we weren't so sure that we were going the right way. I had written down directions before we left, knowing that cell service would be spotty - which is totally was - and man, it made me ... [Read More]
Conquering Mount Woodson
Yesterday was an awesome Saturday that included some of my favorite things -- time with my hubby and puppy, football, a yummy dinner (veggie & mozzarella panini with basil pesto), frozen yogurt, and the activity that took up a chunk of our day: hiking Mount Woodson, a mountain by Lake Poway that offers a spectacular 360 degree view of San Diego County once you make it to the top (we also spotted Catalina Island and Mexico up there!). Yesterday was a chilly day here, so I wore a new Everlast workout hoodie I just got for Christmas that has the hand cover thingys to keep my knuckles warm. It was a good move, as it pretty damn chilly at the top. There were even patches of snow towards the mountain summit! Neither Adam or I had ever been to Lake Poway before, and it is a ... [Read More]
Hiking Iron Mountain
"Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery why we climb." - Greg Child Last night Adam surprised me with an early birthday gift -- a CamelBak for use during my outdoor workouts! It's a backpack that you fill with water and can continuously drink from. This was a perfect little gift, as I'm always thirsty and drink an insane amount of water, especially during exercise. What a smart man I married! Wanting to put my new workout gear to use, today my little family and I headed to a nearby town called Poway to hike somewhere we had never been to before, Iron Mountain. In reading reviews of the mountain prior to going, I had seen a few time estimates at 4 hours. My first thought was that there is no way Harley would last that long, as ... [Read More]
Kwaay Paay Summit, San Diego
Today I had to report to jury duty for the first time ever. I was surprised when I actually got called out of the hundreds of people there to be in the selection process, or as my hubby told me last night as he was trying to school me with his criminal justice degree knowledge, participate in voir dire. I wound up not having to be on the jury, though once I got into the courtroom, I found the whole process pretty interesting and was intrigued to know more details of the case. But my civic duty is complete for now! After being gone all day, I knew my spoiled puppy would be a ball of energy. This assumption proved to be true, as she freaked out and was practically doing back handsprings when I got home. I wanted to get some exercise in and it was beautiful out, so we went for a nice hike ... [Read More]
