"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." - Albert Einstein Saturdays always seem to have a way of flying by, don't they?! Thus far, I've spent the bulk of my day running some errands, one of which was a stop at the pet store to pick Harley up some new doggie food. I haven't bought her toys much lately because of her crazy enthusiasm to rip them to pieces as quickly as possible. But once in awhile, I pick something new up to supplement her basket of (half eaten) toys. After all, I work from home and these babies keep her busy and (somewhat) out of my hair all day long! Today reminded why I don't like getting her toys. Within 20 minutes of me giving her a squeaky rope frisbee thing, she had chewed through the middle of it, ripped the squeaky out, and was trying ... farmer's market
Today, I celebrate.
Right now, I'm at the halfway point of my Marine's deployment. To celebrate making it thus far without having an emotional meltdown, I decided earlier in the week that today would be a day of pure indulgences. I think that I enjoy life a good deal, but an entire day devoted to only doing things I absolutely love (well, within reason... I still picked up Harley's poop and obeyed traffic laws. Ok ok, most traffic laws.)? No work tasks, no errands, no cleaning, nothing that I do just because I feel like I have to? Yes please! Putting my plan into action, here is what my day looked like: After sleeping in a bit, I had a date with my friend Jackie to go to the Little Italy Mercato, aka our new Saturday morning ritual whenever we can. It just so happened to have been gorgeous outside today, ... [Read More]
Crostini Combo Ideas
At the farmer's market yesterday, a loaf of fresh bread was calling my name (and so were berries, broccoli rabe, spinach, guavas, cinnamon peanut butter, granola, and the list goes on and on!). When I came home with a French baguette, I decided that experimenting with crostini combos sounded like a good idea. After slicing the bread, brushing them with olive oil, and throwing in the oven for a few, I began pulling out random things from my fridge to top my crostini with. This was the result: From top left going clockwise, here are the toppings: Goat cheese, fig butter & drizzled honey Fresh mashed raspberries, brie cheese & slivered almonds Arugula, roasted pepper & fresh Burrata (a ridiculously creamy cheese I bought yesterday as well) Sun-dried ... Tofu Scramble Wrap
I've been having some really awesome Saturdays lately. My day consisted of a long morning walk with Harley around our neighborhood trail, going to the Little Italy Mercato with Jackie, yoga, and laying by the pool to read for awhile. What's not to love? At the farmer's market I picked up a lot of fruits and veggies, granola and avocado oil: Do you see those heirloom tomatoes? Can't wait to eat that deliciousness. Jackie is doing a juice cleanse next week so she bought an insane amount of produce today. Looking at her lugging her stuffed shopping bags around that were overflowing with greens was cracking me up. Buying a bunch of veggies and hearing about Jackie's juice cleanse prompted me to try throwing spinach into my afternoon smoothie. Green Monster shakes are ... [Read More]
My Love for Farmers’ Markets
Today I ventured to the downtown farmer's market, the Littly Italy Mercato, with my friend Jackie. I just love it there. You can find everything from fruits and veggies to freshly baked bread, homemade dips, locally made cheese and olive oil. Sure, it's a bit more expensive than the apples you'd get at some food store, but I think it's well worth it. Because unlike a lot of the food people buy and have no idea where it's coming from (besides the "Product of Chile or ___" label), behind all the food at the farmer's market, there's a story. You meet the people that make the products, and a lot of the stuff there is organic. Today I met a guy who started a homemade granola company, and another who has his own peanut butter spread line (both of which are so delicious!). I adore the market for ... [Read More]
