Hello friends! I don't know about you guys, but a low-key weekend was much needed for me after my week last week. A couple of things with work and otherwise kind of bogged me down, and I totally needed a few days to mentally decompress a bit. Luckily, my hubby and I had only one thing on the agenda for the weekend: getting our carpets cleaned, because every time I did a pushup in recent months, I'd get a whiff of a certain someone who loves to snooze on my living room floor... While we waited for our carpets to dry, we killed time at the Del Mar dog beach. It was a beautiful day for a long walk there! There are certainly worse places to waste time. :) My weekend also included an at-home movie night, a long family walk along the coast Sunday morning, heading back to ... [Read More]

My Workouts Lately: Xtend Barre Encinitas, Hiking Iron Mountain & The Fit Mill {Muscle Tweaks Can’t Hold Me Down!}
Hey friends! How was your weekend? Mine was wonderful and included lots of fun with my little family! Check out Harley licking her lips at the sangria carafes I brought to a friend's on the 4th of July: I can't blame her, sangria is one of my favorite summer drinks! Today I thought it'd be fun to talk about my workouts as of late. As usual I've been super active, but lately I've had a few not so fun muscular tweaks happening. I'm thankful to be strong and healthy, but does anyone else ever feel like their body is just out of whack and giving out on them in an aches and pains kind of way?! The first tweak was a couple of weeks ago when I hurt my neck doing a Jillian Michaels' DVD that I've done a million times. It felt like a nerve pinched in my neck down through my shoulder ... Ditching My Fitbit, Keeping My Active Lifestyle
Around a month ago, I kept noticing something missing from my wrist that's usually there.... My Fitbit Flex! Unlike in the past when I've unintentionally lost my activity trackers, this time it was on purpose. I had been feeling the urge to stop wearing my activity tracker, but I had worn one pretty consistently for so long, that it almost felt weird to consider not using one anymore. It was almost this little fear inside of me that thought that if I didn't track my movement, I somehow wouldn't move as much - that not wearing a Fitbit would make me a less active person. But then I realized that that notion was total crap. Who am I kidding? I lead a super active lifestyle. I don't need a Fitbit to tell me that. I usually workout 6 days a week, and most of the time I do both a ... [Read More]
Tricks for Sneaking in Exercise While Hosting Guests
Hi friends! Tomorrow I'm heading up to Anaheim for IDEA World and Blogfest! I was getting psyched seeing so many people posting on social media about their travels to the conference today. Anaheim is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house, so I'll be heading up there tomorrow evening. Conference recaps to come on the blog, but in the meantime, you can check me out on Twitter and Instagram to see what I'm up to at IDEA World! :-) Speaking of travel, today's topic is about when people travel to visit you. Living 2,500 miles away from my family, my hubby's family, and a lot of my friends, I'm happy to have house guests come visit and spend time with me... and since I live in beautiful California and they love me, they like to visit! When people stay with me, obviously my ... [Read More]
Ways to Get Out of Your Fitness Comfort Zone
There's nothing that sounds more boring to me than doing the same things day in and day out without variation. I like to be adventurous with pretty much everything - from the meals I make and the fun activities I partake in, to the workouts I do and even the walking and hike routes I go on with my dog. I think, Walking the same exact path every single day? How blah! I find that switching things up keeps life interesting, and also sometimes scary and exciting. Don't let fear of the unknown freak you out.... Scary and exciting is a good thing! (source) I suppose I could talk a good amount about comfort zones in general. I'm a girl who landed a freelance journalist gig for a newspaper after randomly contacting the editor and telling him that I'd be a great writer for him... with no ... [Read More]
