Highlights from My Recent Press Trip to Nantucket

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a press trip in Nantucket, Massachusetts that was hosted by the CerconeBrownCompany PR & marketing team. Over the last several years in June, I’ve attended the IDEA World Fitness Convention in Anaheim, and since I was missing it this year, the CBC Summer House trip sounded like the perfect alternative for me to get my pulse on newly released products in the health, food, and lifestyle worlds.

The view from my room in Nantucket

For anyone who isn’t familiar with Nantucket, it’s a little summer destination island off Cape Cod, Mass. I had been wanting to visit there, and it definitely was the quintessential New England island that I was envisioning! Lots of cedar-shingled houses, beachy vibes, cobblestoned streets full of cute shops and restaurants, and preppy New Englanders sporting their I-just-got-off-a-boat attire.

The CBC team did a great job of hosting myself and several other writers and editors in the food and lifestyle spaces, and I thought that today I’d share some of the highlights from my trip!

Bose audio wearables | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Bose now offers audio enabled sunglasses. We all know Bose as a brand that offers top-notch audio products, and during the trip I was introduced to their latest innovation: audio enabled sunglasses.

The glasses pair to your phone via Bluetooth to play audio right within the frames. The cool part is that the user hears rich, immersive sound, but if the person next to you is listening to music with them, you can hardly hear an inkling of it – even less so if there’s background noise wherever you are.

I got to take home a pair that I’ve tested out while on walks with my dog. While I wish they were sweat resistant so that they could be worn without worry during outdoor workouts, the quality of the audio and fact that I don’t have to wear anything in my ears (headphones seem to never fit me right) is awesome. My husband has been trying to steal them from my possession because he thinks they’re so cool!

Lighthouse views while boating

Boat riding at sunset. I mean, need I say more? You never have to ask me twice to hop on a boat on a nice night for a relaxing ride!

The excursion was hosted by Discover Boating, a national campaign to help people get out on the water and experience the fun of boating. It’s been shown that being near water produces a positive physiological shift in us that promotes better health and wellness. I can definitely attest to this, because after living in California for 10 years, I had a hard time spending last winter in the northeast not going for walks, doing yoga, and having picnics on the beach and being able to enjoy gazing at the ocean for months!

Our dinner setup | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Home Depot now makes bomb outdoor furniture. My first night of the trip, Home Depot hosted an outdoor happy hour + dinner event where all of the furniture and decor used was from Home Depot’s outdoor line.

Loving the modern furniture from Home Depot’s line | Photo cred: Demi Ward

If you’re like me, when you moved into your first place where you had room for outdoor loungers, tables, and chairs, you were excited… until you started looking and realized that outdoor furniture is generally wildly overpriced. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Home Depot’s patio furniture line is reasonably priced and full of adorable pieces I would totally purchase for my home. I especially like their modern sets, so I know where I’ll be looking when I need my patio furniture replaced!

(Also, Home Depot is currently having a 4th of July sale if you’re in the market!)

Essentia hosted an outdoor HIIT workout at the event | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Essentia’s supercharged ionized alkaline water doesn’t just sound fancy, it could actually rehydrate your body more efficiently. A study done on the effectiveness of the brand’s “overachieving H2O”  showed that rehydrating with Essentia was more effective than rehydrating with a leading bottled water.

Essentia using a proprietary ionization process using locally sourced water | Photo cred: Demi Ward

As someone with a super active lifestyle, I feel like I’m always drinking water and constantly thirsty, so I’m interested in this rehydration factor. I may do an experiment of hydrating just with Essentia for a period of time and writing a piece about the results sometime in the future – once I’m not pregnant, mom to a newborn or breastfeeding (Let’s be honest, there’d be too many external factors with all of that going on!).

Surf time on Nobadeer Beach | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Relaxing on the beach in Nantucket. While the other ladies of the group had a surf lesson, I laid on the beach with my baby bump and relaxed on Nobadeer Beach. It was the one day of the trip when the weather was nice – close to perfect – and SwimUSA hosted a delicious beach lunch, as well as provided us ladies with bathing suit options for the trip.

Lots of fresh veggies always makes me a happy camper! | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Making appetizers with Grapes from California. Did you know that 99% of U.S. table grapes are produced in CA? Not surprising since Cali is the perfect climate for grape growing (as well as wine growing and the farming of so many other crops that we enjoy throughout America on the daily)!

Love me some nutritious, delicious grapes! | Photo cred: Demi Ward

During the trip, Grapes from California hosted a demo that gave me a few fun ideas for easy grape appetizers to whip up. I also discovered that I love frozen grapes during this demo, so I’ve started freezing grapes at home to enjoy as a refreshing snack!

My favorite appetizer of the day, which I will definitely be making sometime soon, was the above pictured goat cheese + sliced grapes + green onion crackers. So simple, yet so good!

Biossance mini facials. The last morning of the trip, we were treated to mini facials using Biossance‘s plant-based, sustainable skincare products. I started getting regular facials around 6 months ago and have been really enjoying treating my skin well through those treatments, and I’m interested in cleaning up my beauty routine more, so it was fun to learn more about the Biossance line.

Biossance’s skincare line focuses on clean, sustainable, effective ingredients | Photo cred: Demi Ward

Biossance uses vegan nontoxic formulas and sets high clean beauty standards, so I wasn’t surprised to find that my sensitive skin was not at all bothered by their products. I got to take home some products to experiment with using, and I adore their new Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Mask!

The quintessential Nantucket home style | Photo cred: Demi Ward

My trip to Nantucket for the CBC Summer House experience was a lot of fun and very informative! Thanks a lot to the CBC team for having me, to all of the awesome brands that hosted great events during the trip, and to Demi Ward for her wonderful photography that I used in this post!

Tell me… Have you ever been to Nantucket? Questions/comments about any of the products I mentioned?

How fun! I would love to visit Nantucket — it’s so beautiful. I had no idea that Bose made audio sunglasses and I love the looks of that grape appetizer.

I’ve been wanting to make my way out to Nantucket! I was in Long Island this past weekend with a few guys for a curling tournament. We had a blast! We curled a lot, but we also got to explore the area a bit. It looks similar to some of your photos here. Also, audio enabled sunglasses!? Bose is amazing! We have a bunch of Bose toys, and I think these sunglasses might need to go on the list now. Thanks for sharing…and glad you had fun!!

Yea, I think Nantucket would be cool for a long weekend getaway. And Bose does make some sweet toys!

📍The Living Desert Zoo in Palm Springs is such a charming place to spend an afternoon! At this conservation-focused zoo, we loved all of their animatronic displays & children’s play + learning spaces — and a highlight of the day was definitely getting to feed the giraffes! 🦒

La Jolla is an ever popular area, but for good reason… It’s one of the most beautiful areas in San Diego ☀️ & my favorite time of year to visit is NOW when it’s Harbor Seals Pupping Season! 🦭

📍Casa Beach is closed off from humans from mid-December through mid-May for birthing & bonding, and most of the seal pups are born in February & March. They are so much fun to watch!

Last weekend we got to ride on the world’s largest rotating aerial tram car, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway 🌴⛰️ Guests travel 6,000 feet up in just 10 minutes!

Once we reached the top, we hiked a couple miles of trails in Mount San Jacinto State Park - where it was only 37 degrees and windy, brr! - and took in the beautiful views.

Here are a few tips for optimizing a Palm Springs Aerial Tramway adventure:

✨Show up early. We didn’t realize how big of a production this excursion would be, and when we arrived at 11 am, the wait time was 2 hours to ride the tramway. If I could do it over, I would show up at opening time.

✨Bring breakfast. While they do have food options while you wait for your tram ride, it’s stereotypical not very healthy American food. Pick up food at a local cafe and bring it with you to enjoy outside. We love @palmgreenscafe!

✨ Bring extra clothes. The temperature at 8,500 ft elevation varies from 20-40 degrees colder, so make sure to pack a jacket, sweatshirt, hat, even gloves.

Who else is pumped for the Olympics to start?! 🇺🇸

This curling competition experiment is a hit with my kiddo! Here’s how to make it:

You’ll need:
✨A rimmed baking sheet
✨Aluminum foil
✨Permanent markers (we used black + red)
✨A variety of pebbles
✨Optional: buttons, craft pom-poms and other objects to experiment playing with

1️⃣ Spread foil across your baking sheet. Draw the starting line on 1 side and a small circle inside a large circle on the other side.

2️⃣ Place your “rink” in the freezer, then fill it with water halfway up the sides. Chill until it’s totally frozen.

3️⃣ Time to play! Each player picks 3 pebbles. Take turns using a finger to push your pebble towards the target.

🥌 Pebbles that land in the inner circle = 3 points each
🥌 Pebbles that land in the outer circle = 1 point each
🥌 3 rounds = 1 game

❗️Players can hit other pebbles & knock them out of the circles, which is fun!

❗️Once all players use their pebbles, that’s the end of round 1. Tally the scores as you go!

✨Idea from @kiwico_inc’s Winter Wonders experiment book

Welcome to my new series, Easy Plant-Based Meals, where I share simple, nutritious meals that I make for my family on the regular. 🥦🥕🥬🧅🧄🫘🫑

Today I’m making Garlic Pearled Couscous with Roasted Chickpeas & Veggies.

Here are the ingredients you need to serve 4:

1️⃣ 2-3 boxes of Near East Pearled Couscous with Roasted Garlic & Olive Oil (I find that 3 boxes yield about 4.5 cups; you can also use a plain pearled couscous)
2️⃣ 1 can garbanzo beans
3️⃣ 4 TSP avocado oil
4️⃣ 1 zucchini
5️⃣ 1 bell pepper
6️⃣ 2T-1/4 cup pine nuts, optional but I like the added heart-healthy crunch
7️⃣ Salt, pepper & paprika to taste

Directions:
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 375. Drain & rinse chickpeas, then add to a baking dish. Add 2 TSP of avocado oil, and a nice sprinkle of salt, pepper, and paprika to taste. Mix it up, then cook for 25 minutes, stirring halfway through.

2️⃣ Cook the couscous according to the box directions.

3️⃣ Heat 2 tsp avocado oil in a sauté pan over medium-low heat. Chop the zucchini and bell pepper, add a sprinkle of salt & pepper, then cook until tender.

4️⃣ Lightly toast the pine nuts.

5️⃣ Plate the couscous, add the roasted chickpeas & veggies on top, & sprinkles pine nuts onto each plate. Enjoy!

🌎 The largest National Park in the contiguous U.S. - 3.4 million acres! - did not disappoint 🔥 Here’s what we had on our agenda for Day 2️⃣ of exploring Death Valley National Park:

📍Explore the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
🛷Go sledding down the dunes!
🥾Hike Mosaic Canyon Trail ~ a 3.5-mile out & back trail with 974 ft elevation gain. This trail was so much fun & the rock formations are gorgeous! My daughter loved climbing & bouldering around. It features some cool slot canyons and difficult rock scrambling - our kinda speed!
🚰 Refuel at Stovepipe Wells Village ~ Nearby pitstop within the park for gas, restrooms, a general store & restaurants
