Review: Lorna Jane Activewear

Confession: I’m kind of a workout clothing junkie.

Not only do I exercise nearly every day, I also work from home the vast majority of the time – where I mostly wear, you guessed it, workout clothes. I even sleep in comfy workout gear sometimes.

Since I sport activewear so often, I like my clothes to meet the following criteria: 1.) cute, 2.) fitted yet not too tight, 2.) allow me to move without feeling restricted or constantly falling down, 3.) comfortable, 4.) breathable. <– I have this one shirt that makes me feel like I’m immediately sweating in it, and I hate that!

lorna-jane

Now that you have an idea of my love for workout attire, you can understand why I was excited when Lorna Jane contacted me to try out some of their activewear. Lorna Jane is Australia’s #1 activewear brand, and they now have 20 stores open in California – including locations in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Huntington Beach and San Diego. Their mission:

At Lorna Jane our aim is to inspire women to live their best life through active living. We believe in a three pillared philosophy of MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE and it is this mantra together with our clothing that encourages and motivates women globally to be the best they can be. Lorna Jane is not simply a clothing label, it is a way of life.

Looking through their online store, there were so many clothes that I thought were adorable. Here are the pieces that they sent me to try out:

Lorna Jane-4

My favorite goodie is the blue long sleeved shirt – a piece they call a Maxum Full Zip Through. With the chilly weather these days, I’m loving the long sleeves for hiking, hanging out….

Lorna Jane-11

….walking my dog….
Lorna Jane-1

…going to yoga class…

Lorna Jane-8

….and heading to the gym in. Bonus: This color is one of my favorites & perfectly matches my new Brooks sneakers.

Lorna Jane-7

Another item I received is a pinkish crop top with a LJ crest on it. While I wouldn’t wear a crop top for strength training or rowing workouts because I feel like it’d ride up too much, it’s a cute style to wear for hiking, lounging around the house and running errands. It’s really comfy, and I even slept in it the other night!

Lorna Jane-6

Lorna Jane-5

Lorna Jane-2

I also tried out 2 pairs of tights, including a fun blue pair (they call the color nightshade) and a black pair with a pretty inside print.

I have so many pairs of black workout pants and capris – all of which I frequently wear – but it’s nice to have a few colorful pairs and I LOVE this blue color. Below I’m wearing the blue pants with a black tank that Lorna Jane also sent me. As much as I want to, I tend to not wear tanks like this because I just don’t think they flatter me, but this tank was soft and really breathable, which will be great for workouts in hot weather.

Lorna Jane-9

Lorna Jane-10

A photo of me practicing my yoga + balance skills wearing this LJ gear during a recent hike:

stile trail-7

And a gym shot of the fun inside print on the black pants:

Lorna Jane-3One thing to note about Lorna Jane’s pants: They kind of run small. I wear a size small most of the time, occasionally a medium depending on the cut and style. With these pants, even the mediums are on the snug side, though they still fit well.

Before this, I had never heard of Lorna Jane, and I’m really happy that I now know about the company. To me, Lorna Jane bears some resemblance to lululemon (who I also love) in terms of their company style and mission, sizing, and fashionable and high-quality yet practical clothes, so if you’re a fan of lululemon, you’ll love Lorna Jane too. Lorna Jane’s pricing is also comparable, which is on the pricey side by my standards, but I think it’s worth it to invest in some pieces you’ll enjoy for so many sweat sessions. If you spend a lot of time in your activewear as I clearly do, it’s completely worth the splurge! You can check out Lorna Jane’s styles here.

And a big thank you to Lorna Jane for sending me these awesome clothes! 🙂

Questions for you:

What’s most important to you when picking out workout gear?

What’s your favorite type of workout clothing to buy – pants, tops, sports bras, headbands, etc.?

Do you wear activewear as much as me (or do I need to get my butt in gear and put on some jeans more often?!)?

Spread the love

Neat review, I’ve never heard of Lorna Jane and they look like a cool company!

As far as my criteria in buying workout clothes, they NEED to stay put when I move in them. It’s the worst when clothes keep falling down when I’m trying to run!

Love everything! I need pants that won’t fall down when I squat! Way too many butt cracks are seen than need to be 😉

Hahaha. Speaking of people seeing butts, I just thought of another requirement of mine: my pants can’t be sheer! You’d think this one is a given, but I have a bunch of pants meant to workout in (ahem, Victoria’s Secret, I’m talking about you!) where it’s totally see-through when you bend over. Took me a bit to realize it too!!!

Oh this is so cool! I used to see Lorna Jane shops all the time when I lived in Sydney but I never picked anything up. Maybe on my next visit back! 🙂 I think you are crazy for saying that tanks don’t flatter you. You look great!! I love the print on the black capris and I really like the blue capris! I need my workout clothes to flatter me, feel good when I workout and they have to be pretty (very important!). So cool!

Love this! I have heard of Lorna Jane but never tried any of their items. I am an Ellie and Under Armour girl 🙂 I’ve also scored a few great items from Forever 21, surprisingly enough. PS Thanks for continuing to come to my blog even though my comment generator won’t work well with you!!

📍The Living Desert Zoo in Palm Springs is such a charming place to spend an afternoon! At this conservation-focused zoo, we loved all of their animatronic displays & children’s play + learning spaces — and a highlight of the day was definitely getting to feed the giraffes! 🦒

La Jolla is an ever popular area, but for good reason… It’s one of the most beautiful areas in San Diego ☀️ & my favorite time of year to visit is NOW when it’s Harbor Seals Pupping Season! 🦭

📍Casa Beach is closed off from humans from mid-December through mid-May for birthing & bonding, and most of the seal pups are born in February & March. They are so much fun to watch!

Last weekend we got to ride on the world’s largest rotating aerial tram car, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway 🌴⛰️ Guests travel 6,000 feet up in just 10 minutes!

Once we reached the top, we hiked a couple miles of trails in Mount San Jacinto State Park - where it was only 37 degrees and windy, brr! - and took in the beautiful views.

Here are a few tips for optimizing a Palm Springs Aerial Tramway adventure:

✨Show up early. We didn’t realize how big of a production this excursion would be, and when we arrived at 11 am, the wait time was 2 hours to ride the tramway. If I could do it over, I would show up at opening time.

✨Bring breakfast. While they do have food options while you wait for your tram ride, it’s stereotypical not very healthy American food. Pick up food at a local cafe and bring it with you to enjoy outside. We love @palmgreenscafe!

✨ Bring extra clothes. The temperature at 8,500 ft elevation varies from 20-40 degrees colder, so make sure to pack a jacket, sweatshirt, hat, even gloves.

Who else is pumped for the Olympics to start?! 🇺🇸

This curling competition experiment is a hit with my kiddo! Here’s how to make it:

You’ll need:
✨A rimmed baking sheet
✨Aluminum foil
✨Permanent markers (we used black + red)
✨A variety of pebbles
✨Optional: buttons, craft pom-poms and other objects to experiment playing with

1️⃣ Spread foil across your baking sheet. Draw the starting line on 1 side and a small circle inside a large circle on the other side.

2️⃣ Place your “rink” in the freezer, then fill it with water halfway up the sides. Chill until it’s totally frozen.

3️⃣ Time to play! Each player picks 3 pebbles. Take turns using a finger to push your pebble towards the target.

🥌 Pebbles that land in the inner circle = 3 points each
🥌 Pebbles that land in the outer circle = 1 point each
🥌 3 rounds = 1 game

❗️Players can hit other pebbles & knock them out of the circles, which is fun!

❗️Once all players use their pebbles, that’s the end of round 1. Tally the scores as you go!

✨Idea from @kiwico_inc’s Winter Wonders experiment book

Welcome to my new series, Easy Plant-Based Meals, where I share simple, nutritious meals that I make for my family on the regular. 🥦🥕🥬🧅🧄🫘🫑

Today I’m making Garlic Pearled Couscous with Roasted Chickpeas & Veggies.

Here are the ingredients you need to serve 4:

1️⃣ 2-3 boxes of Near East Pearled Couscous with Roasted Garlic & Olive Oil (I find that 3 boxes yield about 4.5 cups; you can also use a plain pearled couscous)
2️⃣ 1 can garbanzo beans
3️⃣ 4 TSP avocado oil
4️⃣ 1 zucchini
5️⃣ 1 bell pepper
6️⃣ 2T-1/4 cup pine nuts, optional but I like the added heart-healthy crunch
7️⃣ Salt, pepper & paprika to taste

Directions:
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 375. Drain & rinse chickpeas, then add to a baking dish. Add 2 TSP of avocado oil, and a nice sprinkle of salt, pepper, and paprika to taste. Mix it up, then cook for 25 minutes, stirring halfway through.

2️⃣ Cook the couscous according to the box directions.

3️⃣ Heat 2 tsp avocado oil in a sauté pan over medium-low heat. Chop the zucchini and bell pepper, add a sprinkle of salt & pepper, then cook until tender.

4️⃣ Lightly toast the pine nuts.

5️⃣ Plate the couscous, add the roasted chickpeas & veggies on top, & sprinkles pine nuts onto each plate. Enjoy!

🌎 The largest National Park in the contiguous U.S. - 3.4 million acres! - did not disappoint 🔥 Here’s what we had on our agenda for Day 2️⃣ of exploring Death Valley National Park:

📍Explore the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
🛷Go sledding down the dunes!
🥾Hike Mosaic Canyon Trail ~ a 3.5-mile out & back trail with 974 ft elevation gain. This trail was so much fun & the rock formations are gorgeous! My daughter loved climbing & bouldering around. It features some cool slot canyons and difficult rock scrambling - our kinda speed!
🚰 Refuel at Stovepipe Wells Village ~ Nearby pitstop within the park for gas, restrooms, a general store & restaurants
