Adam and I first met in college. When we began dating, I quickly found that I never could get enough of his calm demeanor and kind heart. In some ways we were, and still are, different from one another. But I think that’s what makes us such a strong couple – we balance each other out.
After he graduated college, Adam decided that he wanted to be in the military. He set his sights on being a Marine Corps officer and soon left for training. At first this was extremely difficult for me, as I wasn’t sure what would happen. Before then I had never really thought about the possibility of being a military girlfriend or spouse, and it was a scary prospect. But there was one thing I was sure of… I didn’t want to lose him. Being long distance, and at times, unable to communicate, was (and still is) hard, but it solidified our relationship even more and made me confident that I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life.
On the 4th of July with fireworks filling the sky, one of my favorite CDs playing, sitting in front of a crackling fire pit and sipping on a bottle of good wine, he proposed.
3 months later, we had a civil ceremony with just close family present. We wanted to have a wedding day, but at the time, decided we would make it legal first. After all, the military is unpredictable and we weren’t sure if he would get deployed before we had the chance to plan a wedding (which he did!).
15 months after that, we had our wedding day. Both days were so special in their own way. The first was symbolic of a journey we were about to embark on (the next day we temporarily moved to Florida, then later drove cross country to move to California), the second was a big celebration with all of our loved ones. Here are some pictures from both days:
