Hey friends! So, I wasn't planning on blogging today, but here I am chatting with you because I found out.... It's National Dog Day! I know that there are lots of random, silly holidays on every day of the year, but truth be told, I think some of them are fun because 1.) I love any excuse to celebrate, and 2.) I enjoy acknowledging days designated to something near and dear to my heart. And pretty much everyone that knows me knows that I'm obsessed with dogs, especially my own pooch! ... [Read More]

Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days
My New Volunteer Job When I moved from San Diego to the Bay Area, I immediately missed volunteering at an animal shelter. Even though I can only devote a couple of hours each week to being there, volunteering made me feel like I was making a difference in my own little way in protecting the welfare of animals. That's why a few weeks after I moved here, I started looking into animal organizations I could volunteer at. One day I popped into the little, old building of an animal shelter that serves my area to fill out an application, and for the past couple of weeks, I've been a new volunteer there. In coming from working at the San Diego Humane Society, I knew that in a way, the bar had been set too high for me. I've worked at other shelters before there and was well aware that ... [Read More]
Harley Meets Cattle | Coyote Lake – Harvey Bear Ranch County Park, Morgan Hill
Last weekend my little family and I headed to a nearby park to get some outdoor exercise. Adam and I went biking at Harvey Bear Park earlier in the week, and we were in awe of how beautiful it is there. I was also struck by another thing - the cows grazing everywhere. I'm not a country girl and am not used to seeing cattle just hanging out right by me! I knew I wanted to take our city puppy there to have her see them too. At one point, Harley was having a staring contest with a cow, until the cow started mooing. At that moment, my little city canine tried to bolt the hell out of there. It was so funny! I thought that cows hanging out in large fenced areas was interesting enough... ...until we came across a part of the park where the cows were just hanging out ... [Read More]
A Simple & Healthy Summer Salad
Volunteering at the SD Humane Society tonight included a lot of puppy playtime! Here are a few of my favorites that I met: The reason why there were so many puppies there is because earlier this year, the SD Humane Society, along with the SD Dept. of Animal Services and SDPD, raided three pet stores that were treating their animals inhumanely. They confiscated over 100 animals, many of which were puppies. This past weekend, these animals became adoptable, hence why it's puppy galore there right now! If you live in the SD area and are interested in getting a young dog, I suggest going to check them out ASAP! Today's Eats Moving onto food, here is a recap of my eats today... My breakfast included Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt with Kashi Go Lean Cinnamon Crumble cereal on ... [Read More]
We’re an Animal Crazy Bunch
"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi Last week while I was back in my hometown in NJ, for some reason I was thinking a lot about humans beings' relationships with animals. If you've read this blog before, you can probably tell how big of an animal lover I am. I'm the girl who feeds stray cats in my neighborhood; who almost hit a dog with my car once, then took him home with me for days while looking for his owner. I've always had a big heart for animals. Spend about 30 seconds in my parents' home, and you can see where my love for animals originated... There's Rosco, our 12-year old dog that we adopted after he was found as a puppy in a drain pipe: My favorite cat Molly... ...who was the tiniest little fur ball when we got ... [Read More]
Homemade Falafel for Dinner & Apple Chips for Dessert
This photo cracks me up: With a very anxious puppy on my hands this morning, I fit in a 20 minute lunchtime play session at the park with Little Miss Harley. After about 15 minutes of being a total lunatic, she collapsed in the shade. When our time was up and I tried to get her to go, this is what she did: Isn't her face hilarious? The park = heaven on earth for Harley. I didn't mind basking in the 80 degree sunshine for a bit either! Moving on to food, tonight for dinner I tried my hand at making falafel, a Middle Eastern chickpea patty that is typically deep fried. But come on now, is there deep frying in my kitchen, ever? Not going to happen friends! I've eaten some yummy falafel from street vendors in New York City late at night after many drinks (this may or may not have ... [Read More]
