Wherever You Are, Be All There | 7 Powerful Mindfulness Quotes

If there’s one thing that I think each and every one of us can do to enrich our lives, it’s to practice mindfulness. Any regular blog readers may recognize this to be a constant life practice that I bring up, because I really believe that living in the moment and appreciating the now are surefire ways to feel happier and lower stress levels.

Today I had the chance to practice at a yoga studio I hadn’t visited before – a rooftop yoga studio and vegan restaurant in La Jolla called Trilogy Sanctuary. I’ll be sharing a full review of the studio soon, but as I participated in a lunchtime vinyasa flow class – feeling the ocean breeze, looking up at the bright blue sky, stretching out in some yoga poses – I couldn’t help but feel appreciative of the moment that I was experiencing.

In the spirit of the gratitude that swept over me today in a moment of mindfulness, I wanted to share some powerful mindfulness quotes that I’m loving. Here we go!

IIN Chat: Health & Wellness Quotes I Love

Last weekend I aced my third test for the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which means that I am 75% done with my health coaching certification! Time really does fly when you’re studying and doing work that you’re passionate about and are infinitely interested in.

Being the quote lover that I am, when I was studying for my last test, I noticed some favorite concepts and quotes that I had jotted down throughout my recent lessons. Since I think that you all may enjoy them too, today I thought I’d share them. Let’s get to it!

First thing’s first: It’s time to announce my Cocogo sports drink giveaway winner. Congratulations to Calista at A Fettle Fine Thyme! I’ve emailed you for your address so I can get a box of lemon lime electrolyte packets shipped to you very soon.

Cocogo ambassador

Speaking of Cocogo, I’m happy to announce that I’m now partnering with the company as a brand ambassador! As I mentioned in my post about their drink packets, I’m a big fan of keeping properly hydrated to feel my best and love electrolyte drinks. Grape is my favorite flavor of theirs!

And because I feel like keeping things short and sweet on here tonight, I wanted to share some words of wisdom that I absolutely adore and have yet to post:

respect yourself

I happen to believe that life’s too short to waste your time on activities/people/things that bring you down and deplete your happiness. If you agree, may you keep this quote in mind throughout this week and always to create a life filled with positive energy and joy. 🙂

Life is Too Short to Wait

So often I hear of tragedies happening and people dying and I think of how crazy and short life can be.

This happened a few days ago when that teacher in Nevada was killed by a 12-year old gunman. And the thought of life being unpredictable has been weighing heavy on my mind today, since finding out that my great aunt passed away this morning.

I wasn’t really close with her, but she was family. The last time I saw her we were relaxing on beach chairs in the early evening, feet in the sand, plastic cups of wine in our hands, just chatting about life. She always seemed healthy, until recently when she was diagnosed with cancer in multiple areas of her body. After that diagnosis came, it all went downhill for her, and a prognosis of having months to live turned into days.

I never can seem to easily grasp the idea that one day a person is alive and well, then the next day they’re gone – even when it happens this way after a progression of sickness.

now

Feeling kind of blah, this afternoon I decided that a yoga class would be good for my spirit. The yoga instructor spoke of mindfulness — paying attention to being right here, right now, free of worries of what will happen or what has happened.

I think that really being present in the “now” and focusing on being the best version of you today are major keys to fulfillment and happiness.

life-is-what-happens

We don’t know how long we’ll be on this earth. Don’t wait to truly live.

So spend time doing what you’re passionate about. If you don’t have the time, make the time.

Don’t waste time worrying about petty things and people. It takes up too much time and energy, and distracts you from the positive things you’re probably ignoring.

Be kind to others…and yourself.

Take chances. Do things that scare and challenge you.

Follow your heart and believe that all the answers can be found within you.

If you’ll laugh about it in a year, don’t let it ruin your day now.

Tell the people close to you that you love them often… I did so with every loved one I spoke to today.

And do what makes your heart smile because…

Life Mottos from Lululemon

It’s Sunday night already, and I’m wondering — where did the weekend go?!

A couple days ago while running errands, I stopped at the Lululemon outlet store for the first time. Though it has less of a selection than the regular store, it was awesome because it was still their cute clothes, only cheaper (well duh, I suppose that’s the usual MO of an outlet store!).

I had seen a really cute hoodie at the regular Lululemon during my birthday shopping trip, but the price tag was a little too steep for me. I was more in need of yoga pants and sports bras than a zip up, so I skipped it. At the outlets, I found a cute hoodie and got it 70% off its original price. Score!

When I got home, I noticed the shopping bag that my purchase came in. It’s covered with life mantras and quotes, most of which I love, so I thought I’d share some of them with you:

lulu-bag

  1. Do one thing a day that scares you.
  2. Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks.
  3. Stress is related to 99 percent of all illness.
  4. Jealousy works the opposite way you want it to.
  5. Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
  6. Friends are more important than money.
  7. Dance, sing, floss and travel.
  8. A daily hit of athletic-induced endorphins gives you the power to make better decisions, helps you be at peace with yourself, and offset stress.
  9. That which matters the most should never give way to that which matters the least.
  10. Creativity is maximized when you’re living in the moment.

I love these 10 reminders. Thanks for the wisdom, Lululemon!

Which one is your favorite? Or what other mantra/quote have you been reminding yourself of lately?

Have you ever seen someone nutty enough to go to the gym with a cast on (or done so yourself?)?

cast

Well, in the very unlikely chance that you go to my gym, you recently may have… because I’ve been back working out at the gym!

After 2 weeks of staying away from the gym and doing light at-home workouts due to my foot injury, I decided to try going to the gym. Since I only have light weights at home, I wanted to head to the gym to do some heavier upper body strength training.

cast-gym

It certainly has been challenging to come up with exercises where I’m not putting pressure on my foot, but I’ve been managing to do some pretty good arm/back/ab workouts. There has been a lot of sitting on a bench or stability ball, and it’s a bit tough taking it easy… but my improvised workouts and dealing with this injury in general has reminded me of a few things:

All you can do is your best.

Doing something is always better than doing nothing.HRM

No doubt about it, injuries are frustrating. But just as with any obstacles that come my way in life, all I can do is deal with it, have a positive attitude, and do everything I can to be healthy and happy. I’m really trying to embrace this mentality and just keep doing what I’ve been doing – listening to my body, doing the best I can, understanding and accepting that injuries are temporary, and just letting it be for now. With that being said, here’s my quote of the week:

“Always do your best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.” -Miguel Angel Ruiz

Top 10 Life Mottos & Quotes of the Week

Earlier today, I realized that exactly 4 months ago I moved from San Diego to the San Jose area. In all honestly, I miss San Diego a lot, but I’ve been having a great time exploring the Bay Area and have settled into my life here. Between wine country, good food, farmers’ markets, beaches, and more, there’s no shortage of fun to be had in this area!

In other places I’ve lived, I’ve printed out motivational quotes or written sayings that inspire me on post-its, and then hung them up in places where I can see them on a daily basis. One thing my new place has been missing is some quirky quotes around, so I’ve been checking out some phrases to put up around my house.

I know that there are a lot of quote junkies out there like myself, so I wanted to share the top 10 mottos & quotes I found tonight with you all. Hope that they inspire you too!
