Hello friends! I don't know about you guys, but a low-key weekend was much needed for me after my week last week. A couple of things with work and otherwise kind of bogged me down, and I totally needed a few days to mentally decompress a bit. Luckily, my hubby and I had only one thing on the agenda for the weekend: getting our carpets cleaned, because every time I did a pushup in recent months, I'd get a whiff of a certain someone who loves to snooze on my living room floor... While we waited for our carpets to dry, we killed time at the Del Mar dog beach. It was a beautiful day for a long walk there! There are certainly worse places to waste time. :) My weekend also included an at-home movie night, a long family walk along the coast Sunday morning, heading back to ... [Read More]

Back to Hiking…Or Not
For all of my readers in the U.S. and Canada, YAY for Labor Day weekend! I'm looking forward to what seems like it'll be a pretty low-key next couple of days. Today I decided to try getting back to my usual Friday routine of going for a hike with Harley girl. I haven't hiked lately since getting a boot on for my foot injury, but now that the cast has been off for a week and it's feeling pretty good, I figured I'd try to do a somewhat easy & short hike. Quite honestly, I've been dying to go hiking. The views are so gorgeous around here, and I just adore getting some fresh air and clearing my mind during a hike. After a nicely productive morning of work, I took Harley to our usual nearby park that we hike at for a lunchtime workout. It's pretty toasty out today - about 90 and bright ... [Read More]
Do What you Can, With What You Have, Where You Are
(source) Have you ever seen someone nutty enough to go to the gym with a cast on (or done so yourself?)? Well, in the very unlikely chance that you go to my gym, you recently may have... because I've been back working out at the gym! After 2 weeks of staying away from the gym and doing light at-home workouts due to my foot injury, I decided to try going to the gym. Since I only have light weights at home, I wanted to head to the gym to do some heavier upper body strength training. It certainly has been challenging to come up with exercises where I'm not putting pressure on my foot, but I've been managing to do some pretty good arm/back/ab workouts. There has been a lot of sitting on a bench or stability ball, and it's a bit tough taking it easy... but my improvised workouts and ... [Read More]
Foot Injury Update & My Favorite At-Home Exercises That Put No/Low Pressure on the Feet
Happy, happy weekend everyone! It's been a low-key Saturday for me so far - sleeping in, eating delicious whole wheat oatmeal blueberry banana pancakes (They are seriously the only pancakes I've made recently!), taking Harley for a long walk, and now here I am. Adam got an awesome hiking backpack for his birthday that he wanted to try out, so he went for a hike and I'm here sulking because I can't hike and blogging to you all. Since I'm laying on the couch icing my foot, I figured this is a good time for an injury update. As I briefly mentioned last week, I have been wearing a soft cast on my foot. When I went to the podiatrist, he confirmed that I have sesamoiditis (further explanation of that here), and that one of my sesamoid bones looks a lot worse than the other and is probably ... My Foot Pain Diagnosed: I Have Sesama-what?
Happy, happy Friday everyone! Earlier today, I took Harley for a nice hike, and made peace with the idea that it might be the last challenging hike I go on for a bit, because I have some injury news to share.. In the past week, I've had appointments for meeting with a sports medicine doctor, getting an x-ray and an MRI as well, all to figure out what the hell is going on with my foot and calf. You may or may not have read my posts where I've talked about my never-ending calf injury - a muscle I tore 3 years ago and have gone to physical therapy at two different facilities in an attempt to fully recover from it, which I haven't felt like I've done thus far. Last summer, I started to experience some weird foot pain by my big toe. After a general practitioner diagnosed it as ... [Read More]
The Never Ending Injury
Greetings from San Diego! I flew back to the West coast last night after 2 weeks of being in Jersey with my family. I am so happy that I made the trip back East to see my grandma in the hospital. I hung out with her yesterday before heading to the airport, and she is most definitely progressing and seeming more like herself. The pneumonia is clearing out, and the surgery to remove her tumor went great as far as we can tell. They removed her breathing tube and a bunch of other IVs and contraptions a few days ago, which was a great note to leave on. The past few weeks I've been constantly thinking about the people I love and how important they are to me. Nothing compares to family! I was super excited to see my hubby and pup last night. Reunions are always great after time ... [Read More]
