Hi there! Hope that you had a great weekend. I was more than ready for the weekend on Friday, and I kicked off my 2 days off with a hike at my favorite trail area with my hubby and this maniac... We hiked for a bit under 2 hours, and it felt so nice to be out in nature after a long week! ... [Read More]

Zucchini Puree with Oregano Cream
Happy weekend everyone! My Saturday so far has been lovely. I put my juicer to work for breakfast, finished up this week's IIN lecture, took Harley for a long walk, and visited the Morgan Hill farmers' market and health food store. Today was the first time I'd been to my town's farmers' market in awhile, and I forgot how much I love just walking around markets picking up local food. There's a certain energy at a market filled with locally grown food and the happy farmers and workers who sell it. My market picks: All of the apples I've been getting at food stores have been browning quickly and aren't as crisp. It's amazing how much crisper and fresh the apple is that I'm eating at the moment, along with some strawberries (Strawberries in January? Sure why not!) while sitting on my ... [Read More]
Getting to Know Morgan Hill
In moving to a new area, there are so many things to discover in your everyday life. It's so much more than just knowing where you're going to live and work - What will your favorite new restaurants be? Where will you exercise? Shop? What activities will you be involved in? After moving to the Bay Area last month, I thought about all of these things and much more, many of which I have yet to figure out. While I quickly discovered a dog park to take Harley to, where the closest Trader Joe's is, and my new favorite winery, finding a gym took a few more weeks, and I'm still figuring out things like good hiking spots. In the past week, I've discovered a couple of things in my new town that I'm happy about -- because uncovering the little things that I'll take pleasure in will allow me to ... [Read More]
A Weekend of Celebration
The past two days were all about celebrating the great things going on in my life. I have so much to celebrate, including these biggies: First, my hubby just finished his last day of work as an active duty Marine Corps officer. My years as a military wife have been full of ups & downs and lots of adventure. Adam and I have grown so much as a couple, and I'm really proud of how we've made it through everything together. Secondly, we received word last week that Adam has been offered a civilian job that he really wanted. YEA! The job is in San Jose, so we'll be moving very soon to Northern Cali. I absolutely adore San Diego and will be a bit sad to leave here, but I am super excited to move up to the Bay Area. Wine country! Redwoods! San Fran! I can't wait to explore up there and ... My First Pomegranate
While exploring the Little Italy farmer's market a few weekends ago, my friend Jackie was psyched when we spotted locally grown pomegranates. I had somehow never eaten a pomegranate fruit before, which might be a bit odd since I'm slightly obsessed with fruit. I've had many pomegranate flavored things, just never the real thing. Always excited to nab foods at the market that I haven't eaten before, I picked one out to try. Pomegranates are a fruit with a lot of health benefits. They're full of antioxidants and rich in nutrients, particularly Vitamin C, B5 and Potassium. Research has shown that regularly eating the fruit can increase oxygen levels to the heart, promote healthy circulation of the blood, and help improve digestion. It's even believed that pomegranates are great ... [Read More]
Lemony Goat Cheese Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms
This morning, Adam and I journeyed to the Little Italy farmer's market. Adam was determined to get some clams to steam for lunch, which stank up my kitchen in a way that no vegetarian like myself appreciates! While I had a few things I wanted to pick up, I happened to spot a veggie that made me excited... zucchini blossoms! A few months ago, I saw zucchini blossoms at the farmer's market for the first time and nabbed some. After having them at home for a few days, I came up with an idea of what to do with them... and looked in my fridge to find the blossoms brown and no longer fresh. Determined to pick them up again at the farmer's market the next weekend, I kept my eyes peeled for more zucchini blossoms but couldn't find any. Today was the first time since then that I've seen ... [Read More]
