"How you treat yourself is how you're inviting the world to treat you." I'm a big proponent of making self care a priority. I talk about this from time to time on the blog because I really believe that doing little nice things for yourself can make a big difference in your stress levels and overall mental health, self confidence and happiness. As the saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup... and today I want to talk about my favorite ways to fill that cup! Self care means different things to different people, and there's no right answer as to what's the best way to treat yourself right. It's all about whatever your life needs more of and whatever soothes your soul - as long as it's beneficial to your mind, heart & body! While I obviously consider healthy eating and ... [Read More]

Dating Myself This Valentine’s Day Weekend
Hi friends! Well, last weekend marked 2016's holiday of love... and while I love any excuse to celebrate my relationship with my husband, I also like taking time around each Valentine's Day to show myself some love. Self-love is a topic I've written about probably a dozen times, and it's a subject that I like to chat about with you guys because it is so important. You can't have a truly healthy life without having a healthy, positive self-relationship. Sometimes we're all so busy running around handling our business and taking care of everyone else in our life, that we forget that we deserve to be taken care of too. We need to love ourselves first, because a healthy self-relationship forms the backbone of all of the other relationships you have in your life. The concept of ... [Read More]
Dating Myself as an Early Birthday Treat
Hey, hey! Hope that you had a lovely weekend. My Marine was away for training all weekend and my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, so I decided to spend some of the weekend treating myself to early birthday fun. I've talked numerous times on the blog about the idea of dating yourself. A couple of times a year I have a total "me" day, and I've made it an annual thing in recent years to do a birthday celebration day of sorts all on my own. Let's rewind it to the beginning of the weekend, shall we? After I finished working on Friday, I went for the massage I had mentioned wanting to get in this post about recent workouts. It was only half relaxing, as the other half of the time I was wincing in pain as things were crunching and getting unknotted, but it was much needed and ... [Read More]
Taking Time to Date Myself Today
Earlier this week, I realized that I hadn't really pampered myself in awhile. With feet in need of some TLC and the idea of a massage in the back of my mind for months, late this afternoon I decided to kick my weekend off with a spa date. (photo credit) I think that so often, it's easy for us ladies with busy schedules to forget about treating ourselves and to put any special indulgences on the back burner (especially for all you mamas out there!). Usually on Thursdays and/or Fridays, I squeeze in a few spare hours that I don't really even have to volunteer at the Humane Society. But this week, I decided that a few hours of "me" time would take precedence over my volunteer gig. I think that once in awhile you just need to switch your priorities around and skip something else in order to ... [Read More]
A Snow Storm, BluePrint Juices & Self-Love Talk
Happy weekend! Do you like the randomness of this post's title?! It's a Winter Wonderland I was supposed to fly back to San Diego later on today, but I just heard that Newark airport is closed this morning. Craziness! I actually switched my flight yesterday already. I was thinking about rescheduling it anyways because I want to stick around longer for my grandma to get better, and the snow storm gave me an easy out. My grandmother is fighting through having pneumonia and scheduled for her surgery to remove the cancer next week, so I'm sticking around longer to be with her more. At my parents house, we got around 6 inches or so of snow last night, but I'm hearing that up north got a ton of more snow. I hope that everyone in the northeast stays safe and warm during this winter ... [Read More]
Do You Date Yourself?
Today's post is a topic I've wanted to write about for awhile -- dating yourself. Out of all the important relationships in your life, the one you have with yourself is the most significant of them all. This idea is central to healthy living, because if you don't have a good relationship with yourself, it makes it difficult to have meaningful, strong bonds with others. Having positive friendships and connections is pivotal to being your best self. A few months back, my friend and I were talking about her recent therapy session. They had talked about whether my friend makes an effort to do enjoyable things on her own to help strengthen her mental, physical, and emotional health - what her therapist deemed as ''dating yourself." I had never heard it coined that way before, but when I ... [Read More]
