When I moved to San Diego, I immediately fell in love with the area for its beauty and all that there is to see and do. From gorgeous beaches to majestic mountains, the area has it all. With so many pockets of awesome areas throughout San Diego County, you can be here for years and still have so much to see... I know that was the case for me! Even after living there for over 7 years, I feel like I left without exploring every area. Even so, I know that one thing is for sure: I took full advantage of living in San Diego and was constantly having fun. I wanted to be able to leave one day saying that I lived it up in beautiful California, whether that meant exploring the beaches, eating my way through the city, taking road trips through the state up the coast, or trekking through as ... San Diego Spotlight on Cafe Topes
Happy Friday friends! I'm here today with another post in my San Diego Spotlight series, where I highlight a local business that offers lots of deliciousness. Today the spotlight is on a breakfast & lunch spot in Carlsbad called Cafe Topes. Ever since I first found out about Cafe Topes and got to sample their signature cinnamon bun when I did the Carlsbad Food Tour last year, I've been itching to go back for brunch. With a style described as "American with a modern twist," Cafe Topes has been serving breakfast favorites to locals since 2013. The restaurant has a fun, modern feel to it, and one of the first things you spot when you walk in is a wall full of succulents. Open 7 AM to 2 PM every day except Monday, Cafe Topes has a nice sized patio so that you can enjoy ... [Read More]
Food Touring in Carlsbad [Weekend Recap]
Hey, hey! How was your weekend? I'm writing this on a Monday night, which is late for my usual Monday early AM posts, but today was a super busy day. Just another manic Monday friends! Any who, backing it up to last Friday, my weekend started off with a tropical acai bowl date with a friend... ...an evening tennis session with my hubby, and then a Saturday morning HIIT workout, walk with my pup + yoga practice. I had planned on having this nicely healthy start to the weekend because I knew what was coming up next: eating and drinking the entire rest of Saturday, because A and I went on our very first food tour! I had recently mentioned us doing a few fun activities as pre-birthday celebrations for each of us before we travel to the east coast and spend our actual birthdays ... [Read More]
Date Night in Carlsbad {Weekend Recap}
Hi friends! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. My long weekend was a great one, and here were some of its highlights: I kicked off my weekend with a walk along the beach with my little family. I had planned on getting an at-home workout in afterwards, but wound up not feeling like it at all. Most of the time when I'm feeling this way I just push through an exercise session, but once in a blue moon I just skip it - especially when I've worked out every other day that week as was the case on Friday night. Instead of working out I baked banana bread, read blogs, made white broccoli pizza and watched a movie.....and it was fabulous. Saturday morning I met up with a few other women for a hike at Torrey Pines State Beach. It was a perfect day weather-wise, and ... [Read More]
An Early Birthday Celebration & Desserts Galore [Weekend Recap]
Hi friends! I haven't been around the past bunch of days, and I've missed blogging! The reason I've been a bit MIA is because my father-in-law flew in from the east coast to visit my hubby and me. I've been busy having fun around town and hosting him in our new home. Although we had a couple of days of overcast skies, we also had a few days with gorgeous weather to enjoy. We spent all Sunday afternoon at the beach soaking up the sun in Carlsbad: When guests come to town, I inevitably wind up whipping up a lot of yummy food for us to enjoy. What can I say, I show my love with food! My father-in-law went gluten free earlier this year, so I had a bit of a fun challenge in coming up with all GF fare. He also has a huge sweet tooth, so I knew that dessert was a must. One dessert hit was ... [Read More]
Fruit Bowls, Bird Poop, Tennis, Oh My! Weekend Recap
Hi friends! You can probably tell from my post title that I'm lacking some wittiness at the moment, but I keep having such fun weekends, so I'm back again this Monday sharing a recap of my last few days. My weekend kicked off with my cousin Michelle coming into town to stay at my place on Friday night. First we went for a short yet sweaty evening hike with Harley.... ...and then went to a Mexican restaurant called Norte to grab some dinner. I ordered a plate with a veggie tostada, rice, beans and an avocado taco. It was my first time dining at Norte, and I would definitely go back sometime. I thought it had pretty good food and a nice outdoor dining area, plus it's right next to the beach in Carlsbad. Now that I've moved to the northern side of San Diego County, Michelle (who lives ...
