Hey friends! While I tend to keep it light with my Friday posts, I must be feeling philosophical, because today we're going deep and talking about relationships, and how you have the power to create a happier life by choosing who you spend your time and energy with. Ready? Okay, let's dive in! One of my favorite quotes in the world is, "Respect yourself to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy." I think of this quote partly in terms of the people that I surround myself with. Awhile back, I made a conscious decision to let go of the people that weren't bringing light and love into my life or in some way helping me to grow as a person. I think that people's vibes have the power to rub off of you, whether you're aware of ... [Read More]

An Attitude of Gratitude: Little Things that are Making Me Happy
I'm big on enjoying the little things in life. I believe that our attitudes determine our direction, and if we cultivate feelings of gratitude and appreciating the great things in our life, both big and small, it can only lead to a happier heart and soul. (source) In the spirit of this, today I want to talk about some of the little things that have been making my happy lately. Here we go! Puppy snuggles - When I work in my home office, sometimes my dog comes and lays under my desk. Not only does she keep my feet nice and warm, but every time I look down at her, she's looking up at me like this: I picture her saying things in a little kid voice like, "Hey mom! How's work going? When are we going to go on a walk?" I just love my dingo. ... [Read More]
If You Can’t Change it, Change How you Think About It.
I'm a big believer in the power of attitude and positive thinking. While I've talked about how readjusting your outlook can make your life seem so much better when it comes to trivial things, I don't think I've really discussed how I handle it when more important things in my life are bothering me. I think that in being an optimist, sometimes I have a hard time admitting when something is really upsetting me. I always want to stay positive, but then I remember something I heard awhile back that has stuck with me: Positivity is NOT the denying or lack of negative thoughts. It's the recognition of sometimes having them and being honest with yourself about it, but then being able to discard those thoughts before they fill up so much space in your life that you have no room left to see all ... The Good Times Don’t Last Forever, But Neither do the Bad
I spent last New Year's Eve drinking chocolate martinis and crying. My hubby and I had flown back from our home state of New Jersey back to San Diego a few days before. I would have preferred to ring in the new year with everyone, as we had the year before at our wedding rehearsal dinner. But we had to come back to San Diego soon after Christmas because Adam was about to deploy the next week and had to work. He was working like crazy right before the deployment. In fact, he worked on New Year's Eve, came home exhausted and worn out, and passed out really early in the night. I was coming down from my high of being around my family and friends for the holidays. Don't get me wrong, I love my life in SoCal as I did back then, but I always feel a bit bummed after going from being with ... [Read More]
Change Your Attitude, Change Your Life
''There is so much about my fate that I cannot control, but other things do fall under the jurisdiction. I can decide how I spend my time, whom I interact with, whom I share my body and life and money and energy with. I can select what I can read and eat and study. I can choose how I'm going to regard unfortunate circumstances in my life - whether I will see them as curses or opportunities. I can choose my words and the tone of voice in which I speak to others. And most of all, I can choose my thoughts.” - Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love We've all had days when things don't seem to go our way. A lot of the time we let it impact our moods and attitudes, continue our day in an agitated state, and blame it all on bad luck or external factors. However, I think that life is too short to ... A Fall Feelin’
Happy 10/11/12 blog friends! It's starting to feel a bit like fall around San Diego (well, ya know, we do experience minor season changes!). We've had a few months of pretty hot weather, but today there was a bit of chill in the air and it was actually rainy. I felt strangely happy to wear a sweatshirt this morning while talking Harley for a walk. Even though I grew up in the Northeast, I'm not a person who loves to live in a place with 4 seasons. I definitely don't mind it being warm and sunny most of the time here (actually, I LOVE it!), but it is nice to have a bit of a change of pace! Before I get to my 'What This Vegetarian Ate Today' rundown, I wanted to note a blog update. I've had multiple people tell me that they've had issues with subscribing to my blog, and I've been ...
